I have always felt that two people who decide to get married are not to create or sign and should not create or sign prenuptial agreements.
In reading my textbook for my LEGL 215 class, it briefly covers prenuptial agreements. The textbook definition really enforced my stance against it. I won’t quote it verbatim here, due to copyright laws, but I will tell you in laymen terms that a prenuptial agreement is made before two people get married and is when two people note what belongs to each person in the other person’s property. (What?) (Huh?)
Usually people who have alot of wealth make out prenuptial agreements.
The definition of prenuptial agreement given by Merriam-Webster:
law: an official agreement that two people make before they marry in which they state how much of each other’s property each will receive if they divorce or if one of them dies.
an agreement made between a man and a woman before marrying in which they give up future rights to each other’s property in the event of divorce or death.
Typically, whatever assets that remain when a spouse dies goes to the surviving spouse anyway, there wouldn’t be a need or purpose to create a prenuptial agreement in the event that one spouse dies.
Why are prenuptial agreements not of God?
It totally goes against God’s idea, creation, and pronouncement of marriage. (Plan A)
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. – Genesis 2:24 (KJV) (Bold Emphasis Added)
For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;
And they twain shall be one flesh: so they are no more twain, but one flesh. – Mark 10:7-8 (KJV) (Bold Emphasis Added)
What is his becomes her’s. What is her’s becomes his. They become one flesh.
A prenuptial agreement does not include or promote “one flesh”, “oneness”, or the outlook of a lifelong marriage, till death do you part. If you have to consider a prenuptial agreement before getting married, you should reconsider getting married. You’re not ready. You’re still thinking about you. You’re thinking about the possibility of your marriage not succeeding. You’re thinking about your money. You’re thinking about your assets. A prenuptial agreement is a Plan B.
Plan A: God’s Idea, Creation, And Pronouncement of Marriage.
Plan B: Prenuptial Agreement
